TREE TRIMMING
Tree trimming should be a regular part of your garden maintenance. It keeps trees looking neat and tidy, but more importantly it is the best way to keep them healthy and reduce the risk of them causing injury to humans or animals, or damage to property.
This is particularly true in Australia – there is a good reason why many of our beautiful Eucalyptus trees are known as ‘widow makers’!
Trimming a tree properly is also an art form and there are many different ways to prune depending on what the property owner is trying to achieve.
Some examples are:
-
Canopy Lift – trimming the lower branches to provide clearance under the tree.
-
Weight reduction – trimming the ends of the branches to lighten the overall weight of branches.
-
Canopy Thinning – removal of inner branches that are rubbing or growing the wrong way, or reducing the sail area so that the tree is less likely to be damaged during windy periods.
-
Pruning for a view – trimming or removing branches that are obstructing a view. This should not result in a ‘lopped’ tree, but should be done in the correct way that is best for the tree as well as achieving the view.
PALM REMOVAL
Despite being very tall, palm trees are not true trees. They are actually a grass.
Palms can become nuisances in an urban garden because they regularly drop their fronds. Some palms also produce large amounts of fruit and seeds that need to be cleaned up, attract bats and birds and can stain or cause damage to your property.
Some palms, such as Cocos Palms, are also considered to be weeds.
For these reasons, you may want to remove palms from your property.
FOREST MULCH SUPPLY
Forest mulch is freshly chipped timber. It is different to the mulch you get from the landscaping yard, which has usually been stockpiled and started to decompose. Forest mulch provides a great cover for gardens, helps with water retention and over time will break down to create nutrient rich soil for your garden.
DEAD WOODING
Dead wooding is the process of removing dead or dying branches from a tree.
Trees can waste a lot of energy trying to create new growth on dead or dying branches. This can have a negative effect on the overall health of the tree by taking much needed resources away from the living parts of the tree.
Removing dead wood helps the tree direct new growth to living and healthy branches, which benefits the overall health of the tree.
Dead branches also look unsightly, and are a safety risk because they can easily drop off a tree in moderate to strong wind.
STUMP GRINDING
After a tree has been cut down or has fallen down, there is usually a stump left behind. There are many reasons you may want to remove a tree stump. These include:
-
Tree stumps can continue to grow by producing new shoots above ground and their root systems can continue to grow below ground, which can be a risk to buildings, plumbing and hard stand surfaces.
-
Tree stumps can start to decay and provide a food source and nesting site for termites.
-
They can be a trip hazard as they may be difficult to see.
-
You may want to put a fence or shed where the old tree was located, or maybe plant a new tree in place of the old tree.
-
Tree stumps can be visually unappealing.
Trying to remove the stump yourself can be an extremely difficult and labour intensive task. The experienced team at Arborcare have access to the right equipment to remove the stump quickly and most importantly, safely.
GARDEN CLEAN UPS
We are happy to help with general garden clean ups. This could include removing or thinning golden cane or bamboo that has grown too high or thick; reducing general overgrowth of shrubs and ornamentals; reclaiming some of your yard area or lawn; tidying up your hedge or simply putting your pile of green waste that you chopped yourself through the chipper.
TREE REMOVAL
The team at Arborcare live and breathe trees. We love them. Wherever possible we will suggest a range of alternative solutions to save a tree from having to be removed, however there will be are cases when removing (or felling) a tree is the only suitable option. Examples of this may be when a tree is affected by disease and cannot be cured; has wood decay or rot; is structurally unsound due to cracks or old wounds; or it roots have been damaged.
Tree removal can be an extremely dangerous task and should only be done by a professional who has the right knowledge, experience and equipment to ensure that the tree is removed safely and without damage to life or property.
PALM CLEANING
Palm cleaning is removing the dead or dying lower fronds from a palm tree before they fall to the ground, or somewhere you don’t want them to fall. Palm fronds can be big and heavy and may cause damage if they fall on the roof of your house, or onto someone walking underneath.
The canopy of a palm tree can also be lifted to make it more aesthetically pleasing, or for keeping or creating a view.
Cleaning your palms regularly keeps them looking neat and tidy, and reduces the mess you will need to clean up when fronds drop.
